Salut queridos amigos, parceiros e irmãos em Cristo!

Neste informativo compartilhamos com vocês como foram os meses de janeiro e fevereiro de 2018. Como em janeiro não há um período de férias longo como no Brasil, as atividades por aqui não pararam, e inclusive começamos a propor coisas diferentes. Mas, como falamos no último informativo, infelizmente tivemos um problema sério em um de nossos computadores no final de dezembro, e por isso foi necessário muito tempo para refazer coisas que já estavam prontas e isso tomou muito do nosso tempo.

→ Atividades que destacamos do mês de janeiro 2018 ←

• De 12 a 14 deste mês estivemos em Paris para uma reunião da Rede de Jovens da Igreja Protestante Unida, com responsáveis de grupos de todas as regiões, para uma discussão sobre a importância e a continuidade dos acampamentos e retiros de jovens da igreja e também para começar a organização de um acampamento a nível nacional que acontecerá em 2020. Aproveitamos a oportunidade de estarmos em Paris para visitar um culto na comunidade onde trabalham os missionários Rafi e Mary Rakotovao, casal que como nós serve a EPUdF em nome da NMS, e que começou um projeto de plantação de igreja na região de Paris em 2015. Também tivemos um tempo para conversar sobre o trabalho deles e sobre algumas questões burocráticas de nosso trabalho em Lyon, já que Mary é a pessoa responsável pela nossa contratação na França. Ainda neste mesmo fim de semana fomos convidados para participar de um culto proposto pelo Ministério Jovem da Igreja Luterana, o qual foi conduzido por grupos de jovens de comunidades diferentes da região de Paris.

• Nos dias 16 e 17 do mês tivemos os dois dias de formação civil propostos pelo OFII (Secretaria Francesa de Imigração e Integração) – recebemos orientações práticas de como funcionam os serviços públicos no país e também recebemos um curso básico da história francesa. Foram informações muito úteis para a nossa vida pessoal cotidiana, mas também podemos usar essas informações para melhor desenvolver o projeto missionário pois recebemos explicações bem completas de como funciona a Laicidade da França.

• No dia 30 fomos conhecer a comunidade Chemin Neuf (uma comunidade católica que faz um enorme trabalho voltado para os jovens) – fomos com uma das meninas que conhecemos na casa de estudantes católica e ficamos bem impressionados! Era a reunião de oração – teve música, oração, leitura bíblica e pregação, além de testemunhos dos jovens – mais de 100 jovens estavam presentes e foi um tempo precioso na presença de Deus. Inclusive fomos chamados à frente para falar do Projeto França. Depois da reunião, ficamos um longo tempo conversando com alguns jovens que se mostraram bastante acolhedores e interessados. Este trabalho que eles fazem tem tudo a ver com o projeto que queremos desenvolver com os universitários em Lyon.

→ Atividades que destacamos do mês de fevereiro 2018 ←

• Durante o sínodo regional em novembro recebemos o convite para falarmos no culto da igreja Protestante de St. Etienne – então dia 04 fomos até lá, onde durante todo o culto falamos do projeto com universitário de Lyon e do nosso ministério e respondemos as perguntas feitas pelos participantes do culto – cantamos um hino em português e ainda demos uma entrevista para a rádio local (RCF).

• Nos dias 15 e 16/02 recebemos a visita de Kristian Mjølsneset, responsável da Sociedade Missionária Norueguesa pelos intercâmbios que acontecem com o Brasil, para falar dos estagiários brasileiros que receberemos na região em 2018 e sobre a possibilidade de ajudarem no projeto. 

• Acampamento Bible et Ski (18 a 24/02) - Um evento que nos tomou bastante tempo nesses dois últimos meses, o que não estava previsto, foi o Acampamento Bíblia e Ski, que acontece todos os anos nas férias de inverno (fevereiro), dura uma semana e é organizado todos os anos pelas Igrejas Protestantes da região de Lyon. Participam deste acampamento adolescentes entre 13 e 17 anos divididos por faixa etária em 2 grupos – os mais novos formam o grupo do ensino confirmatório e o grupo mai velho forma o grupo de jovens. Nós decidimos participar como ajudantes neste acampamento para que pudéssemos conhecer mais de perto os adolescentes para poder futuramente auxiliá-los nesta transição entre ensino médio e universidade, momento no qual vários jovens param de frequentar a igreja. O problema é que, na divisão dos responsáveis dos grupos, nenhum dos responsáveis pelo grupo de jovens havia participado antes do acampamento e tínhamos somente 1 mês para organizar todas as atividades. O local onde ficamos e as estações de ski eram ótimos – e éramos 55 adolescentes e jovens + 14 responsáveis + o pessoal que trabalhou na cozinha. O acampamento foi bem interessante para estreitarmos os laços com os jovens participantes – foi muito legal poder esquiar - mas, o acampamento foi super cansativo por conta dos horários! E achamos que faltou um pouco de organização do programa geral, e como era nossa primeira vez, não sabíamos muito como ajudar.

Além dessas atividades destaques e muitas outras que não mencionamos – aqui estão as atividades que desenvolvemos regularmente em Janeiro e Fevereiro de 2018:

• Grupo Universitários e Jovens Profissionais de Lyon (18 - 35 anos): Enquanto o pessoal curtia as férias de verão no Brasil, aqui as atividades começaram com gás total em janeiro. Neste grupo concentramos grande parte de nossas forças, pois vemos que a partir dele podemos formar os líderes que precisamos para nos ajudar ao longo do projeto em Lyon. Logo no dia 8 recomeçamos os encontros do grupo, que acontece agora todas as segundas-feiras às 20h, depois de uma breve pausa em dezembro. Começamos com a proposição nova, de fazer os encontros todas as semanas, com um tempo maior de louvor e oração e conversa sobre um tema proposto. Com isso temos preparado os estudos e também o material de divulgação para convidar as pessoas para cada segunda-feira. Estamos muito felizes e gratos a Deus pelo que vem acontecendo, pois desde que começamos, temos tido uma média de 10 a 12 pessoas nos encontros e temos ouvido bons retornos dos participantes que já começaram a convidar outros para se juntarem ao grupo.

No dia 12/02 fizemos a “Soirée Chez Nous” (Noite na nossa casa) – já que aqui foi a primeira semana

de férias de inverno e muita gente acaba viajando, decidimos que em todas as primeiras semanas de férias ao longo do ano faremos o encontro do grupo na nossa casa. Foi muito legal! Éramos 11 pessoas, tivemos um grande tempo de louvor, boa conversa e integração do grupo e comemos muito bem: Hambúrgueres feito em casa pela Mariana – uma delícia!

• Curso Alpha Campus (voltado para estudantes universitários): Em janeiro começamos também os preparativos para o Curso Alpha na Universidade Católica de Lyon (UCLy), que acontece também nas segundas-feiras, mas no período da tarde. Preparamos o material para divulgação e nos dias 15 e 22/01 fizemos a divulgação do Curso Alpha no saguão da universidade, oferecendo crepes e bebidas de graça e entregamos panfletos aos alunos e depois fizemos um treinamento da equipe de responsáveis. O Curso Alpha começou no dia 29/01 e vai até meados de maio – começamos com a entrega de panfletos aos alunos no saguão da universidade, depois comemos juntos, assistimos os vídeos com as temáticas e depois discutimos o tema em pequenos grupos. Até agora tivemos 5 participantes e estamos animado para recomeçar os encontros depois das férias de inverno.

• Atividades na casa de Estudantes Católica: Como contamos no último informativo, recebemos o grande convite do padre Arnaud para desenvolver um trabalho com universitários na casa de Estudantes Católica. E com o início do novo semestre escolar e a chegada de novos moradores na casa tivemos a possibilidade de apresentar dia 07/02 nossa proposta de também trabalhar com os residentes interessados o Curso Alpha Campus que começará no início de março. Vamos ter um tempo de música, assistiremos os vídeos com as temáticas, depois discutiremos o tema em pequenos grupos e por fim, comeremos juntos. Contamos com a ajuda de alguns moradores da casa e os encontros serão em inglês e francês já que muitos dos moradores são estrangeiros e não falam francês. Nas casas de estudantes, moram alunos de várias nacionalidades, também de várias religiões ou sem confissão – uma grande oportunidade de anúncio do Evangelho.

• Visitas nas igrejas para conhecer a realidade de Lyon: Nestes 2 meses visitamos 6 paróquias diferentes participando de diversas atividades: 7 cultos e 1 reunião de presbitério. Além dessas atividades, fomos convidados para ajudar no louvor em alguns cultos em uma das comunidades. Isso é uma tentativa de renovar a forma como vivenciam o tempo de música na igreja, ainda muito habituados somente com o órgão. Então, mesmo sendo uma comunidade grande, eles não têm um grupo de louvor. Entre janeiro e fevereiro trabalhamos em 3 cultos.

• Reunião com a equipe Pastoral da região: Aconteceram 1 em cada mês. A novidade é que na reunião de janeiro nós (Mateus e Mariana) introduzimos uma dinâmica no grupo para que possamos conhecer melhor um ao outro – cada um conta um pouco a sua vida e de sua história com Deus a partir de desenhos ou fotos e depois o grupo ora por quem apresentou. Algo que seguirá acontecendo nos próximos encontros - cada reunião, 1 ou 2 pessoas contarão sua história. Sugerimos essa dinâmica em novembro ao nosso grupo de acompanhamento que gostou da ideia e sugeriu que fizéssemos também com a equipe pastoral da região. Foi um tempo muito precioso na Pastoral já que até agora essas reuniões que deveriam ser um tempo de refrigério e pastoreio mútuo acabam sendo reuniões onde se fala de trabalho e burocracias da igreja. Estamos muito felizes que aceitaram nossa proposta e pelos que temos ouvido, estão gostando bastante – alguns pastores nos disseram que isso é inédito nas pastorais – Gloria a Deus por isso!

• Grupo de acompanhamento: (Pessoas que representam as comunidades de Lyon e que nos ajudam a pensar o projeto) – tivemos uma reunião em janeiro onde conseguimos reunir pessoas de quase todas as comunidades protestantes de Lyon para discutir o andamento do projeto. Também introduzimos a dinâmica no grupo para que possamos conhecer melhor um ao outro – cada um conta um pouco a sua vida e de sua história com Deus a partir de desenhos ou fotos e depois o grupo ora por quem apresentou – nós dois contamos nossas histórias. A próxima reunião será dia 17/03.

- Surpresa de janeiro 2018: No dia 10 saímos com alguns jovens do grupo de Universitários e Jovens Profissionais para nos despedirmos do Paul – ele é um jovem alemão que passou um mês e meio em Lyon, foi apenas uma vez no grupo, mas antes de voltar para casa queria se despedir de nós. Foi realmente surpreendente, depois de um encontro laços foram criados e isso alegra o nosso coração. Deus seja louvado!

- Surpresa de fevereiro 2018: Nós moramos em uma das duas casas pastorais de uma das paróquias Protestantes de Lyon (Est Lyonnais) – a outra casa é uma república de estudantes e os pastores moram em suas casas na cidade. Para que haja maior contato entre os moradores das casas e a comunidade, o presbitério desta igreja nos ofereceu no dia 02 o 2º jantar de integração (o 1º foi em outubro). Como sempre, foi uma noite super agradável e com certeza atingiu seu objetivo.

In this newsletter we share with you how the months of January and February 2018 were. Since in January there is not a long vacation like in Brazil, the activities here did not stop, and we even started proposing different things. But as we mentioned in the previous newsletter, unfortunately we had a serious problem with one of our computers at the end of December, so it took a lot of time to redo things that were already done.

→ Activities we highlight in January 2018 ←

• From January 12th to the 14th we were in Paris for a meeting of the United Protestant Church Youth Network, with group leaders from all regions, for a discussion of the importance and continuity of the church's youth camps and retreats and also to begin the organization of a National Camp that will take place in 2020. We took the opportunity of being in Paris to visit a congregation service where the missionaries Rafi and Mary Rakotovao work, a couple who serve EPUdF on behalf of the NMS like us, and who started a church planting project in the Paris region in 2015. We also had time to talk about their work and some bureaucratic issues with our work in Lyon, as Mary is the person responsible for our hiring in France. Later on this same weekend we were invited to participate in a worship service proposed by the Young Ministry of the Lutheran Church, which was conducted by different youth groups from different congregations in the region of Paris.

• On January 16th and 17th we had the two days of civil training offered by OFII (French Bureau of Immigration and Integration) - we received practical guidance on how public services work in the country and also received a basic course on French history. They were very useful information for our daily personal lives, but we can also use this information to better develop the missionary project because we have received very complete explanations of how the France works as a secular state.

• On January 30th we went to know the Chemin Neuf congregation (a Catholic congregation that does a lot of work for young people) - we went with one of the girls we met at the Catholic student house and we were very impressed! It was a prayer meeting - there was music, prayer, Bible reading and preaching, as well as testimonies from young people - more than 100 young people were present and it was a precious time in the presence of God. We were even called to come to the front of the church to talk about the project in France. After the gathering we spent a long time talking to some young people who were very welcoming and interested. This work they do has everything to do with the project that we want to develop with the university students in Lyon.

→ Activities we highlight in February 2018 ←

• During the regional synod in November we received an invitation to speak at the Protestant Church in St. Etienne - then on February 4th we went there, where throughout the service we talked about the project with the university students in Lyon and answered the questions asked by people in the service - we sang a hymn in Portuguese and we also gave an interview to the local radio (RCF).

• On February 15th and 16th we received the visit of Kristian Mjølsneset, head of the Norwegian Missionary Society for the U-Crew exchange program, to discuss about the Brazilian interns we will receive in the region in 2018 and their possibility in helping us in the project.

• The Bible and Ski Camp (from February 18th to 24th) - An event that took us a long organization time in the last two months, which was not foreseen, was this Bible and Ski Camp, which happens every year during the winter holidays in February, it lasts a week and is organized every year by the Protestant Churches in the Lyon region. Teenagers between 13 and 17 years old are divided into two groups: for the younger group it is part of the confirmatory teaching; for the older group it's like a youth group. We decided to participate as volunteers in this camp so that we could get to know the teenagers closely so that we could help them in the transition between high school and university in the future, when many young people stop attending church. The problem is that in the division of the leaders of the groups, it happened that none of the leaders for the youth group had participated before in the camp and we had only one month to organize all the activities. The place where we stayed and the ski resorts were great - and there were 55 teenagers + 14 leaders + the staff who worked in the kitchen. The camp was very interesting to get closer to the young participants - it was really cool to be able to ski - but the camp was very tiring because of the schedules! And we felt that there was a lack of organization of the general program, and as it was our first time, we did not know much how to help.

And besides these highlighted activities and many others that we have not mentioned,here they are the activities we developed regularly in January and February 2018:

• Group of University Students and Young Professionals (18 - 35 years): While people was enjoying summer vacations in Brazil, activities started here in France with full gas in January. In this group we concentrate a great part of our efforts, as we see that from it we can form the leaders that we need to help us throughout the project in Lyon. On January 8th we started the group meetings again, which happens every Monday at 8pm, after a brief pause in December. We began with the new proposition, to make the meetings every week, with a greater time of praise and prayer and a talk about a proposed theme. With this we have prepared the studies and also the advertisement material to invite people to every Monday. We are very happy and grateful to God for what has been happening since we started, we have had an average of 10 to 12 people in the meetings and we have heard good returns from participants who have already started inviting others to join the group.

On February 12th we did the "Soirée Chez Nous" (Evening at our place) - since in France it was the first week of the winter holidays and many people end up traveling, we decided that in all the first weeks of holidays during the year we will invite the group to our house. It was very cool! We were 11 people, we had a great time of praise, a good conversation and group integration and we ate really well: Homemade hamburgers (made by Mariana) - a delight!

• The Alpha Campus Course (aimed at university students): In January we also started preparations for the Alpha Course at the Catholic University of Lyon (UCLy), which also happens on Mondays, but in the afternoon. We prepared the material for advertisement and on January 15th and 22th we did the promotion of the Alpha Course in the university hall, offering crepes and drinks for free and handed out leaflets to the students and then had a training for the leaders. The Alpha Course started on January 29th and was supposed to run through mid-May - the program was: we started by delivering leaflets to students in the hall, then we ate together, watched the videos, and then discussed the topic in small groups. So far we had 5 participants and we're excited to start again after the winter break.

• Activities in the Catholic Student Home: As we mentioned in the previous newsletter, we received the great invitation from Father Arnaud to develop a work with university students at the Catholic Student Home. And with the beginning of the new school semester and the arrival of new residents in the house we had the possibility to present on February 02th our proposal to also work with interested residents with the Alpha Campus Course that will begin in early March. The program is to have a music time, to watch the videos and then discuss the theme in small groups and finally to eat together. We had the help of some residents of the house and the meetings were in English and French since many of the residents are foreigners and do not speak French. The the students' house, there are students from many nationalities, also from various religions or without any religious confession - a great opportunity to proclaim the Gospel.

• Visits to the congregations in Lyon to know the reality of the church: In these 2 months we visited 6 different parishes participating in various activities: 7 worship services and 1 council meeting. In addition to these activities, we were invited to help with the worship in some of the services in one of the congregations. This is an attempt to renew the way they experience the time of music in the church, still very much based only to the organ. So while being a large congregation, they do not have a worship group. Between January and February we worked in 3 different worship services.

• Meeting with the Pastoral team of the region: 1 each month. The good news about it is that at the January meeting we (Mateus and Mariana) introduced a dynamic into the group so that we can get to know each other better - each one tells a little about his/her life and his/her history with God, from drawings or photos and later the group prays for the person who presented. It is something that will continue to happen in the next meetings - each meeting, 2 or 3 people will tell their story. We suggested this dynamic in November to our follow-up group who also liked the idea.

It was a very precious time in the Pastoral since so far these meetings that should be a time of refreshing and mutual pastoring ended up being meetings where we talk about the work and the church bureaucracies. We are very happy that they accepted our proposal and from what we have heard, they are enjoying it a lot - some pastors have told us that this type of fellowship was never seen in the history of this group - Glory to God for that!

• Follow-up group: (People representing Lyon congregations who help us to think about the project) - we had a meeting in January where we were able to bring together people from almost all Protestant congregations in Lyon to discuss the progress of the project. We also introduced the dynamics in the group so that we can get to know one another better - each one tells a little about his/er life and his/her history with God from drawings or photos and then the group prays for the one who presented - at this first time we told our stories . Next meeting will be on March 17th.

- Surprise in January 2018: On January 10th we went out with some young people from the group Students and Young Professionals to say goodbye to Paul - he is a young German who spent a month and a half in Lyon, he was only once in the group, but before returning home he wanted to say goodbye to us. It was really amazing, after only one meeting ties were created and this cheers our hearts. Praise to God!

- Surprise in February 2018: We live in one of the two pastoral houses of one of the Protestant parishes in Lyon (Est Lyonnais) - the other house is a co-location of students and pastors live in their own houses in the city. In order to be greater contact between the residents of the houses and the congregation, the church council offered us the 2nd of integration dinner (the 1st was in October). As usual, it was a super nice evening and for sure it hit its target.
